About the Team
Like every team at OpenAI, the Marketing team contributes to our broader mission of ensuring responsible and widespread adoption of artificial intelligence. We develop and execute strategies that drive awareness, engagement, and usage for OpenAI’s products and platform among our core audiences.
Our Consumer Product Marketing team helps people discover ChatGPT’s capabilities, build everyday habits, and get more value from our products and subscriptions. We bring together customer insight, positioning, and measurable adoption programs, partnering closely with Product, Engineering, Research, Design, Data Science, and Growth to connect what we launch with how people use it.
About the Role
As a Product Marketer on OpenAI’s Consumer Product Marketing team, you will help people discover what ChatGPT can do, put it to use, and keep coming back. You will own the consumer lifecycle email program, turning product launches and customer insights into campaigns that drive activation, engagement, retention, and paid adoption.
You will set the channel strategy and roadmap, develop compelling messaging and creative, and lead campaigns from brief through launch and measurement. Working with product marketing leads and partners across Product, Growth, Data Science, Engineering, and Creative, you will build relevant journeys for free and paid users, from their first experience with ChatGPT to discovering new capabilities and getting more from a subscription.
This is a hands-on role for a marketer who combines strong storytelling with analytical rigor and operational ownership. You should be equally comfortable sharpening a headline, defining an audience, interpreting an experiment, and improving how campaigns get built. Success means a repeatable program that delivers measurable user impact and useful learnings every week.
In this role, you will:
Own the strategy, roadmap, and standards for ChatGPT’s consumer lifecycle email program across product launches, sustained adoption campaigns, and automated journeys.
Turn product positioning, customer research, and usage insights into clear messages, compelling creative, and practical use cases that help people take action.
Map the customer journey, identify barriers to adoption, and prioritize opportunities using audience needs, behavioral data, and expected business impact.
Build and optimize onboarding, feature activation, setup reminders, and re-engagement programs that help free and paid users build lasting habits with ChatGPT.
Partner with the consumer subscriptions PMM and Growth teams on trials, upgrades, and subscriber retention, translating plan value into relevant lifecycle campaigns.
Lead campaign delivery from briefing and copywriting through creative development, localization, quality assurance, and launch, coordinating agencies and cross-functional partners.
Define audience segments, eligibility, timing, and calls to action with Data Science and Engineering so each message reaches the right users at the right moment.
Develop a testing roadmap across messaging, creative, targeting, and customer journeys. Partner with Data Science on experiment design and holdouts, then turn successful tests into ongoing programs.
Measure incremental product adoption, active usage, retention, and paid conversion alongside email engagement. Share regular readouts with clear learnings, limitations, and recommended next steps.
Improve campaign production and reporting through reusable templates, automation, and better tooling in partnership with Marketing Operations and Engineering.
Partner with Growth and product teams to connect email with landing pages, in-product messaging, push notifications, and broader campaigns, sharing insights that improve the customer experience.
You might thrive in this role if you:
Have 6+ years of experience in product marketing, lifecycle marketing, or growth marketing for consumer products, including hands-on ownership of email programs.
Have built and scaled lifecycle campaigns that measurably improved product adoption, engagement, retention, or subscription growth.
Are a strong writer and creative partner who can turn complex product capabilities into clear benefits, useful examples, and compelling calls to action.
Understand consumer behavior and can use research and behavioral data to identify meaningful audience segments and moments in the customer journey.
Bring strong analytical judgment, including experience with A/B testing, holdouts, and measuring incremental impact, and can turn results into practical decisions.
Are comfortable working with campaign platforms, audience logic, automation, and technical partners to take programs from strategy through deployment and reporting.
Build strong partnerships across Product, Marketing, Design, Data Science, and Engineering, and can guide agencies and align teams without formal authority.
Take initiative, prioritize well, and maintain a high bar for quality while navigating fast-moving launches, changing requirements, and evolving tools.
Bonus: experience with consumer subscription businesses, SQL, and using AI tools to improve campaign development, analysis, or operations.
