It’s an incredibly exciting time to work in energy. Join us on our mission to improve the lives of ONE BILLION humans within the decade and shape a cleaner, better future for everyone.
🏡 Where you'll fit in:
Kraken’s North American Regulatory Affairs & Market Development team is looking to bring on a Manager. You will play an active role in performing regulatory research in support of a range of teams, including sales and product. Using your qualitative and quantitative analytical abilities, you will form hypotheses, conduct analysis, and synthesize conclusions into recommendations. You will also manage workstreams and smaller projects and drive internal initiatives, such as preparing presentations and materials to help global teams understand the intricacies of the North American utility market.
This role starts with depth. You'll spend your early months in regulatory dockets, building the Kraken-relevant regulatory knowledge that our team specializes in. Over time the balance will shift outward. You’ll take on bigger initiatives, represent Kraken at industry conferences like NARUC, and grow into managing external relationships with clients, regulators, and other industry partners.
The successful applicant will combine an interest in energy markets and policy with strong analytical capabilities. You will apply your interpersonal skills to build connected, cooperative teams across Kraken. You must be a tenacious researcher, willing to dive deep into regulatory dockets and distill findings into clear and credible takeaways for our internal and external partners.
This position suits an experienced analyst or associate working for a strategic or economic consultancy, company, or knowledge-focused firm or institution focused on the energy industry. We also welcome applicants with experience working at a regulatory commission. The successful candidate will combine technical ability with a track record of leadership and dependable performance in team-oriented environments.
You will report directly to the Senior Manager of Regulation and Markets in North America and work closely with our business development, product strategy, delivery and client success teams.
🚀 What you’ll do:
Own the analysis
Track relevant utility regulatory proceedings, filings and databases to gather regulatory intelligence and data that can be used to strengthen Kraken’s marketing and value proposition materials, commercial strategy, and client engagements.
Interpret market & regulatory intelligence related to Kraken’s products and client pipeline; distill into strategic insights to inform Kraken’s commercial efforts in North America (including go-to-market strategy, product roadmap, client pipeline, value proposition, etc.)
Communicate regulatory findings with credibility to senior audiences, advising and educating internal business stakeholders on North American policy and regulatory topics.
Create detailed written communications (memos, presentations, comments) for internal and external stakeholders.
Support external engagement
This part of the role grows with time. As you build credibility and expertise, you’ll take on more of it directly.
Support the North American Regulatory Affairs & Market Development team in building strategic relationships with key external stakeholders, including Kraken clients’ regulatory teams, Public Utilities Commissions, state legislators in key states, thought leadership partners, and industry associations.
Engage with client prospects to align client engagement with the prevailing regulatory landscape.
Contribute original thought leadership and market influence activities in support of Kraken’s North American activity, products, and commercial model. This includes representing Kraken in industry forums and trade associations, attending conferences, and authoring original media content.
🧠 What you’ll bring to the party:
The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of relevant experience working for a strategic or economic consultancy, energy company, financial services company, or knowledge-focused firm or institution. We also welcome applicants with experience working at a regulatory commission.
Familiarity with US utility regulation, or a demonstrated ability to get up to speed quickly on complex regulatory subject matter. Must be able to gather and apply market/regulatory intelligence to commercial and client strategy.
Aptitude for detailed analysis of energy and utility regulatory matters, including relevant single-issue topic areas (e.g. technology investments in a utility rate case, rate design innovation, demand-side flexibility market design) as well as the process of utility investment approval and cost-recovery.
The judgment to run a workstream independently and own the analysis end to end, while knowing when to ask for help and how to communicate credibly with senior stakeholders.
Excellent written communication, with a track record of turning complex regulatory material into clear, credible memos and briefings.
Comfort juggling multiple workstreams and communicating across teams to manage expectations and deadlines.
A desire to grow into a stakeholder-facing role over time.
Bachelor's degree required, Master’s degree preferred.
