About your role

As a Junior QA Tester, you will play an essential role in safeguarding the quality, stability, and usability of Fairphone's product ecosystem. Reporting directly to the QA Team Lead, your primary focus will be the hands-on execution of structured test plans and test cases across physical Android smartphones, audio devices (headphones), companion apps, and enterprise solutions. You will work closely with the rest of the QA team to verify that features behave as intended across different use cases and scenarios, by performing thorough test execution, exploratory testing, defect logging, and verifying fix resolutions. 

Key Responsibilities & Objectives

Key Responsibilities  


  1. Execute assigned manual test suites on physical Android smartphones, audio accessories, mobile apps, and enterprise software releases following the established QA guidelines.

  2. Log detailed, high-quality defect reports providing clear steps to reproduce, expected vs. actual behavior, screenshots, screen recordings, and system logs (e.g., ADB logcat). 

  3. Execute hands-on functional, UI/UX, and behavioral tests on documented software features across standard device configurations, following step-by-step test cases to verify core user journeys.

  4. Perform routine re-testing of fixed bugs and run standardized regression checklists across new software builds and hardware configurations.

  5. Execute pre-written automated scripts for performance, and stress, testing according to documented test plans.

  6. Execute sanity, smoke, and regression testing across various software updates

  7. Conduct basic ad-hoc and guided exploratory testing along primary user paths to catch obvious visual, behavioral, or performance regressions across the hardware-software ecosystem.

  8. Assist with device/sample setup, flashing software builds, updating accessory firmware, and maintaining physical test device inventory.

  9. Update test execution progress, results,and pass/fail metrics promptly reporting any execution blockers.

  10. Support comparative and benchmarking test passes against reference devices when required. 

Key Objectives


  1. Ensure product quality and compliance to requirements by executing comprehensive test suites across Smartphone and Audio ecosystems, documenting defects with clear evidence to facilitate resolution, documenting critical defects with clear evidence to facilitate resolution.. 

  2. Guarantee software release integrity by rigorously validating bug fixes and performing thorough regression testing. 

  3. Improve user experience by identifying unscripted edge cases through targeted, exploratory testing. 

Core Activities

  • Flashing or updating software/firmware builds on physical test smartphones and audio devices. 

  • Executing daily assigned functional and regression test cases for ongoing product release cycles. 

  • Extracting device logs (ADB logcat), capturing visual evidence, and logging structured bug reports in GitLab.

  • Re-testing bug fixes and verifying ticket resolutions with engineering and QA team members. 

  • Participating in daily QA team syncs to report execution progress, coverage status, and blockers. 

Your Skills & Experience

Must-Have Skills

  • You have a minimum of 1-2 years of experience in QA testing or in a similar role. 

  • You have a Bachelor's or a Master's degree in Computer Science, Telecommunications Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field.

  • Foundational knowledge of software QA concepts, testing methodologies, and standard testing framework principles. 

  • Hands-on familiarity with the Android OS ecosystem, mobile applications, and smartphone settings. 

  • Familiarity with consumer audio devices and Bluetooth hardware interactions (e.g., wireless headphones/earbuds). 

  • Basic experience with bug-tracking and issue-management systems (e.g., GitLab, Jira). 

  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.


Nice-to-Have Skills


  • ISTQB Foundation or similar.

  • Basic familiarity with Android debugging tools (e.g., Android Debug Bridge / ADB commands for log extraction).

  • Exposure to mobile enterprise solutions (e.g., Android Enterprise Recommended / AER) or telecom operator validation workflows.

  • Prior internship or hands-on testing experience in consumer electronics, mobile applications, or hardware testing. 

  • Knowledge of scripting (Python, JavaScript) for data analysis or automated test scripts.
