Databricks is looking for a Manager of (Generative Engine Optimization) GEO & AI Search Optimization to define how our brand shows up across every surface where buyers discover, evaluate, and choose technology partners — from Google AI Overviews to AI-powered answer engines like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude. You’ll build and run an experimentation-led program that grows our visibility, citations, and sentiment in AI-generated answers and organic search, turning those gains into meaningful business impact. This is a hands-on, high-ownership role for a builder who can operate at the intersection of technical SEO, content strategy, and the rapidly evolving AI search ecosystem.
The impact you will have:
Within 12–24 months in this role, success looks like:
- Significantly increasing Databricks’ visibility and share of citations across priority AI answer engines (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Google AI Overviews) so that we consistently appear as a top recommended brand on high-intent product and category queries.
- Driving growth in qualified organic and AI-referred traffic, conversions, and influenced pipeline for priority product lines and audiences by aligning search and AI discovery strategy with business goals.
- Publishing 5x the amount of content for GEO/AIO utilizing a combination of AI agents and internal writing resources for deep, technical content that gets crawled and cited.
- Accelerating the publishing of new content by creating clear workflows for GEO, content and product marketing teams to create and publish new content.
- Establishing a repeatable GEO experimentation program that designs, runs, and synthesizes tests (e.g., content structure, schema, semantic depth, passage-level changes) and delivers measurable improvements in AI citation rate, sentiment, engagement, and downstream funnel performance.
- Maintaining excellent technical health and AI crawlability across high-value pages — including Core Web Vitals, structured data, schema, crawl optimization, and site architecture — so that both traditional search engines and AI agents can reliably access, understand, and surface our content.
- Embedding GEO best practices into our content and campaign workflows, ensuring new and refreshed content is structured to be AI-citable and answer-focused, and materially increasing the share of third-party and first-party content that accurately and prominently features Databricks in relevant queries.
- Building an executive-ready reporting and insights function that connects AI/SEO performance (visibility, share of voice, sentiment, traffic) to business outcomes, becomes a trusted source of truth for leadership, and informs fast, high-quality decisions from the VP, CMO, and other stakeholders.
- Creating and socializing the Databricks GEO playbook — standards, SOPs, training, and enablement — that up-levels cross-functional partners (content, product marketing, engineering, comms) and reduces cycle time from insight to implementation.
What we look for:
- 5–8 years of hands-on SEO experience, including meaningful time (typically 1–2+ years) focused on AI search optimization, GEO/AIO, or answer engine strategies, with a track record of improving visibility and business results in these channels.
- Strong technical SEO foundation — site architecture, crawlability, structured data and schema markup, Core Web Vitals, and log file/crawl analysis — with experience partnering directly with web and engineering teams to ship changes at scale.
- Proven ability to design and run experimentation programs (tests on content, structure, and technical elements) that turn data into prioritized roadmaps and deliver measurable lifts in search/AI performance and downstream KPIs.
- Fluency with modern SEO, analytics, and GEO/AIO measurement tools (e.g., Semrush/Ahrefs, Google Analytics, Google Search Console, and AI visibility tracking platforms) and comfort building reporting that informs decisions for non-technical stakeholders.
- Excellent written communication and editorial judgment, including the ability to review and refine AI-generated and human-created content so it is accurate, on-brand, and structured to be cited and surfaced by AI assistants and search engines.
- High learning agility, experimentation mindset, and comfort operating in a rapidly changing, ambiguous space — you’re energized by building the playbook while running the plays, not waiting for a fully defined roadmap.
- Strong cross-functional communication and influence skills, with experience working closely with content marketing, product marketing, engineering, analytics, and communications to drive alignment and ship impactful work quickly.
